Scott #620–621 – Mint 1925 Norse-American Centennial Commemorative Set – Engraved U.S. Classics

This finely curated mint pair of 1925 U.S. commemorative stamps (Scott #620 and #621) honors the 100th anniversary of Norwegian immigration to the United States. Issued May 18, 1925, and printed by the Bureau of Engraving and Printing, the Norse-American Centennial series celebrates cultural heritage and exploration through some of the most distinctive two-color engravings of the early twentieth century.

Each design reflects a key theme from Norwegian-American history and craftsmanship:

Scott #620 – 2¢ Carmine and Black “Restaurationen”

Depicts the small sloop Restaurationen, which arrived from Stavanger, Norway, to New York in 1825 with 52 immigrants on board — the voyage often called the beginning of organized Norwegian settlement in America.

Scott #621 – 5¢ Dark Blue and Black “Viking Ship”

Features a Viking longship under sail, symbolizing courage, discovery, and the pioneering spirit of those who crossed the Atlantic. Notable as one of the first U.S. two-color commemoratives since 1901, the design remains a favorite among collectors of engraved classics.
